The Story: A documentary a year in the making, Dear Me is a collection of intimate interviews that focus on five up-and-coming artists and creators from the Toronto area. Produced and directed by Mike Cowley, I was brought in to capture behind-the-scenes photos of the interviewees and crew in February 2022, before then returning in 2023 to photograph the follow up interviews and production. Each interview was in a different room, all of which were tightly packed with cameras, lights, and other equipment. While my focus was mostly on the interview subjects, I was compelled to explore the relationship between the crew and equipment, and how spacial priority will always be given to equipment regardless of rank or position.
